COVID-19 no período neonatal

Resumo

Objetivo: Apresentar os aspectos epidemiológicos, fisiopatológicos e clínicos da infeção pelo SARS-CoV-2 na população neonatal. Revisão bibliográfica: A COVID-19 é uma infecção viral causada pelo SARS-CoV-2 que, em virtude de sua alta transmissibilidade, difundiu-se globalmente, apresentando um caráter multifacetado em diferentes grupos populacionais, como por exemplo o neonatal, com sua evidente baixa imunidade. Nesse grupo, os sintomas clínicos são amplamente variáveis, perpassando por casos assintomáticos e leves, até quadros severos que, por vezes, podem ser semelhantes a outros quadros comuns nesse período, em especial nos prematuros. Há possibilidade de transmissão vertical intrauterina e o teste molecular RT-PCR é o padrão-ouro para o diagnóstico. O tratamento na população neonatal compreende predominantemente medidas de suporte e a presença de outras comorbidades que podem se apresentar no período neonatal, como as cardiopatias congênitas e a prematuridade, pode interferir no prognóstico. Considerações finais: Apesar do atual caráter endêmico da COVID-19, as perspectivas futuras enredam-se entre a possibilidade de novos surtos, as sequelas a longo prazo e a coinfecção com outros vírus respiratórios que acometem comumente neonatos e lactentes, sendo relevante conhecer o comportamento da COVID-19 nessas populações.
