Resumo

Objetivo: Descrever o transtorno bipolar associado ao tratamento com lítio. Métodos: Revisão de literatura integrativa baseada em periódicos científicos relevantes, como PubMed e Scielo. A revisão teve um corte temporal de 5 anos, de 2019 a 2024. O desfecho do estudo foi integrado aplicando-se a estratégia PICO (acrônimo para P: população / pacientes; I: intervenção; C: comparação / controle; O: desfecho / outcome) para nortear a coleta de dados. A estratégia PICO é uma mnemônica que auxilia a identificar os tópicos-chave, onde: P: Pacientes com transtorno bipolar; I: Tratamento com lítio; C: Pacientes com transtorno bipolar sem uso de medicação; O: Incidência de episódios de mania. Considerações finais: O lítio permanece uma terapia eficaz para o transtorno bipolar, prevenindo episódios maníacos e reduzindo o risco de suicídio, com benefícios neuroprotetores a longo prazo. No entanto, seu uso exige monitoramento rigoroso devido aos efeitos colaterais e ao risco de toxicidade. Ademais, novas pesquisas podem fornecer mais dados sobre a eficácia do lítio em diferentes populações e grupos etários, otimizando seu uso no manejo do transtorno bipolar.
