Abstract

Objective: To elaborate a package of measures to reduce urinary tract infection (UTI) related to long-term urinary (bladder) catheterization, consisting of bundle. Methods: This is a methodological study in the creation of a bundle aimed at ICU health professionals from a referral Hospital, located in Belém-PA. The technology was built from a bibliographic survey that had the purpose of grouping information on the main preventive care measures, which were used in the construction of the bundle. Results: It was constructing a bundle that had as main measures: hygiene of the professional hands, use of aseptic technique in catheter insertion, maintenance of clear urine flow, maintenance of the collecting pouch below the level of the bladder, Avoid insertion of the long-term urinary (bladder) catheterization, hygiene of the urethral meatus 3 times a day, fixation of the catheter in the patient, write the date and time/shift of the emptying. Conclusion: The role of the nursing professional for the handling and assistance of long-term urinary (bladder) catheterization is highlighted, contributing to the prevention and control of ICU in the intensive care unit, in addition to allowing other researches focused on this topic.
