Nursing students' knowledge assessment in relation to Lean Methodology: cross-sectional study

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the knowledge of nursing academics of the last graduation period, in relation to the tools of the Lean Manufacturing Methodology. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study of a quantitative nature conducted with 31 nursing students who volunteered to participate in the study, from a college located in the city of Contagem, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. A structured questionnaire with 12 multiple choice questions was applied. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square test. Results: It is noteworthy that the students who have already received training (p= 0.42) and those who already act as health professionals (p=0.37) when compared to the others did not present better performance. Conclusion: The participants of this study demonstrated insufficient knowledge about the Lean Methodology and its tools, highlighting the importance of inserting Lean in the curriculum of the nursing student, with a view to adding to the new nurses important and necessary skills for good health management.
