Abstract

Objective: To review the national and foreign literature searching for results of surveys that evaluate the prevalence of dental absenteeism, as well as some variables related to this process: gender, age group, employee function, as well as the main dental problems that trigger absenteeism. Methods: Through the Health Virtual Library, the databases were analyzed using the descriptors: Absenteeism, "Occupational Dentistry" and "Oral Health", obtaining a total of fifteen papers that dealt with dental absenteeism. Results: The literature was controversial about the studied variables. However, it was unanimous in stressing the importance of companies to include in the planning of their occupational health activities, actions aimed at the recovery and maintenance of the oral health of their employees. Conclusion: This study contributes to a better understanding on the subject, since it proposes a reflection about the subject, exploring it from different perspectives.
